Physical Access

IdentityX can be used to enhance existing physical security systems by providing much more certainty than simply waving an ID card or even entering a PIN, as its high-fidelity solution incorporating biometrics prevents an attacker from stealing a card or an employee from loaning his access card to a third party.

Many physical access systems rely simply on possession of a card to open the door to a facility.  Obviously, cards can be lost or stolen, as they are not tied directly to the individual to whom they are issued.  Through the addition of biometrics and wireless security, IdentityX ensures that it is the actual employee requesting access. In addition to raw security, this provides an excellent measure of non-repudiation by employees who might otherwise attempt to deny that they were on site.  If an employee considered erroneously claiming that their ID card had been stolen at the time of an illegal activity, the biometrics captured with IdentityX both reveal the fraud and more importantly discourage its attempt.

As an added benefit, the very nature of IdentityX ensures that an attacker attempting to trick the system into granting him access must submit his picture and a sample of his voice. An attacker would have to steal an employee's ID card and personal phone, as well as have knowledge of the employee's PIN in order to be able to even attempt such an attack, but the inclusion of biometrics presents additional barriers as well as valuable evidence of the attacker.

For some secure locations, it may currently be necessary to hire staff to witness employees swiping their badges or entering a PIN.  Such an approach helps address an attacker who has simply stolen a card, but it is not as secure as automated biometric matching, nor is it cost effective. A guard is performing a manual comparison of the employee to his card, which isn't as accurate. Furthermore, guards are likely to wave through individuals that they recognize, which would allow someone to enter using a fellow employee's stolen card in order to hide their trail.

In addition to the increase in security given by IdentityX, companies will find cost savings through reduced fraud and reduced staff. Even the cost of hardware drops, since the mobile phone is often purchased, maintained, and upgraded by the employee.  Furthermore, the authentication necessary through IdentityX can be tailored based on location and time.  Entering the main entrance during business hours might only require an acknowledgement on the phone, while accessing a remote location on the weekend might require biometric authentication.
